Take time to think
To take time to think is to gain time to live. Nancy Kline
The quality of our thinking pretty much drives everything else in our lives, yet we more often than not prioritise doing over thinking. There's no time to think or reflect we are action oriented. We 'just get on with it' ticking off our tasks and achievements.
As a coach you are a thinking partner, providing the environment, time and space for quality thinking to happen. As a thinking partner you can help support decision making; identify blind spots and limiting assumptions. You can also offer new perspectives and different approaches to problem solving. Above all you provide 'permission' to think, do nothing else, for an hour or more and to do that you need to be a very good listener.
This shouldn't be a luxury or indulgence, but in the fast and furious world that we inhabit, it certainly feels like it sometimes. So in the same way that you prioritise time to relax (remember when wellbeing was a 'new thing'?), treat yourself to some time to think in your week.
Even better get yourself a thinking partner to support the process. π
